The Israeli police claimed that the woman left Al-Aqsa Mosque complex and approached the officers next to Bab al-Silsilah, carrying a knife and attempting to stab the officers.
The occupation police opened fire on the young woman and left her dead. “The medical forces that arrived at the scene of the accident determined her death,” The police said. No casualties were noticed on the Israeli side.
According to journalists, they saw the young woman’s body covered with a survival blanket.
A Palestinian news agency said that the Israeli authorities closed the doors of the compound in the wake of the attack.
On Sunday, there were five Palestinians killed after an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank sparked gun battles with Hamas’s militants, officials said.
Last May, the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, the same site, witnessed aggression by Israeli police against Palestinian worshippers during the Holy month of Ramadan. The aggression was a prelude to the 11-day war in Gaza, between Israel and Hamas. It was the heaviest war between both sides in years.
The complex is located in East Jerusalem, the Palestinian part of the city, which was occupied and later annexed by Israel in 1967.
