Number Of Martyrs Surges As Efforts Ro Halt The Israeli Aggression On Gaza Fail

Israeli aggression over besieged Gaza Strip continues

Since May 10, 2021, the Palestinian martyrdom has reached 219, including 63 children and 100 women, and 1,500 Palestinians got wounded, and the number is subject to increase. While Israeli occupying forces say that the death toll in Israel reached 12, including two children. Diplomatic efforts took place to end the fight, but in vain. Israeli airstrikes are continuing to target Gaza and its residential areas. Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the militant groups of besieged Gaza Strip, continue their rocket attacks in response to the continuity of Israeli aggression on the civilians in Gaza.

Israel says that 3,750 rockets were launched from Gaza by Hamas. However, 90% of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system and 500 fell short.

Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said that Israel targets buildings where Hamas militants stay, warning people to evacuate buildings that are about to be struck.

However, civilians and families were found under the rubbles of their bombed homes. Last Sunday, the Ishkontana family, a seven-member family, were buried under the rubbles due to Israeli raids targeting their house. The strikes came without any prior warning.

Riad Ishkontana said, “I was listening to their voices beneath the rubbles. I heard Dana and Zain calling, Dad! Dad! Before their voices faded and then I realized they had ascended as a martyrs.”

Prime Minister, Netanyahu, said, “As surgical an operation as it is, even in a surgical room in a hospital you don’t have the ability to prevent collateral damage around affected tissues. Even then you can’t. And certainly in a military operation you cannot.”

As Netanyahu commented carelessly on the martyred civilians and casualties, about 450 civilian-populated buildings were struck in Gaza and more than 52,000 Palestinians have been displaced, the UN Humanitarian Agency reported.

Diplomatic efforts took place to mediate between Hamas and Israel and put an end to the aggression. But in vain.

Last Monday’s Security Council meeting failed to issue a binding resolution as the United States blocked, as always, the UN Security Council statement to take action.

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinians ambassador to the UN, said that “If the Biden administration can exert all of their pressure to bring an end to the aggression against our people, nobody is going to stand in their way.”

Since May 10, the Biden administration did not announce publicly its desire to end the aggression. Rather, it follows a silent diplomacy and acts privately to support Israel.

According to the White House, a call made by Biden to Netanyahu which he expressed his support for a ceasefire, but never called Israel to stop its aggression.

Mike Pence, Former Vice President of the US, expressed via his twitter account, America’s continuous support to Israel. He stated “Three years ago today, our Administration followed through on the promise of many before and moved our US Embassy to Jerusalem, the rightful capital of Israel! Israel is America’s most cherished ally & @usembassyjlm represents unbreakable bond between our two Nations,”

He also added, “America Stands With Israel.”

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, an initiative made by France, Egypt, and Jordan, preparing for a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire, failed. The US told the council that a public pronouncement would not calm the crisis.

On Wednesday morning, PM Netanyahu said that he is “determined to continue this operation until its aim is met,” despite Biden’s call for a ceasefire.

He reported, “We’re not standing with a stopwatch. We want to achieve the goals of the operation. Previous operations lasted a long time so it is not possible to set a timeframe.”

Israel’s arrogance, along with US support, halt any path to peace or ceasefire. However, the UN General Assembly will discuss the situation on Thursday thanks to diplomatic efforts by Egypt and UN mediators.
