Gunman Leaves 8 Dead And Several Injured At Russian University

A student opened fire at the Perm State University in Russia, just 1,300 km away from Moscow, reported the authorities on Monday.

The video shows students jumping out of the window of the university building as shots are fired at them.

The Russian health department states that there were at least 8 people killed in this fire and several were left injured, either by gunshots or falling off the windows. The department also says that there were nine ambulances that were provided to the university.

Though the suspect has been wounded according to the interior minister, the investigative committee has now opened a criminal murder case on the suspect.

The shooter has been identified as Timur Bekmansurov, citing unnamed sources, according to the Baza Telegram channel, which is said to be close to Russia’s police force.

The Moscow Times has also quoted the following from a social media post of the shooter, explaining this as an act of hate and not terrorism.

“What happened was not a terrorist attack (at least from a legal point of view). I was not a member of an extremist organization, I was non-religious and apolitical. Nobody knew what I was going to do, I carried out all these actions myself,” the post reads.
